REACTIONS WITH TRANSFER OF K-NUCLEONS AND NUCLEAR STRUCTURE

Assuming a pure transfer mechanism, the structure factor determining the excitation of the final nucleus in reactions of the type A + B → (A-k) + (B + k) with k = 2, 3, 4 is discussed in some detail. All intermediate states of the group of transferred particles are taken into account. The structure factor is written in a form analogous to that of the structure factor of reactions with one-nucleon transfer. The theory determining the dynamical factor of reactions with one- nucleon transfer can therefore be applied also to reactions with the transfer of a group of nucleons. It is shown that there is no factorization of the spectroscopic factor of the reaction into two factors one of which depends only on the properties of the nuclei A and A-k and the other depends only on the properties of the nuclei B and B + k. The excitation spectra of the final nucleus observed in different reactions with the transfer of k nucleons on the same target nucleus will be different from one another, as a rule, and are not directly determined by the usual spectroscopic factors for the corresponding nucleon group. Exceptions to this rule are discussed. © 1969.
