STUDY OF METABOLIC COOPERATION WITH ESTABLISHED MYOBLAST CELL-LINES

Two established myoblast cell lines, L6 from a rat and clone 10 from a mouse, were examined for their ability to undergo metabolic cooperation. These cells were observed to cooperate with an HGPRT- derivative of L6 (L6TG) and with HGPRT- human fibroblasts. Cytoplasms prepared from the L6 myoblasts also cooperated. This indicates that gap junctions can be assembled in the absence of a nucleus. Even 20 h after enucleation cytoplasms continued to cooperate. The L6 cytoplasms synthesized very little, if any, nucleic acids. Furthermore there was no indication that nucleic acids moved from cells into cytoplasms. These results suggest that in metabolic cooperation nucleotides move between cells. © 1979.
