摘要
We have measured mean Q values for single-electron capture and transfer ionization in slow collisions between Xe projectiles of very high charge q and He. For the former process we observed an oscillatory behavior as a function of q, reflecting the discrete nature of the capture states. The experimental Q values for transfer ionization are substantially higher than the minimum Q values predicted by the extended classical over-the-barrier model. These results offer an explanation for earlier reported anomalously low ratios between the cross sections for two- and one-electron removal from He in collisions with highly charged Xe [H. Andersson, G. Astner, and H. Cederquist, J. Phys. B 21, L187 (1988); H. Cederquist et al., ibid. 25, L69 (1992)]. © 1995 The American Physical Society.
