CATHODIC POLARIZATION OF MANGANESE DIOXIDE ELECTRODE IN ALKALINE ELECTROLYTES

摘要
Polarization of β- and γ-MnO2 is measured at various constant currents in 9M KOH and KOD electrolytes in reduction from MnO2 to Mn(OH)2. Two limiting currents are observed in high-current discharges of γ-MnO2, one around MnO1.75 and the other after MnO1.5. The former is attributed to formation of a lower oxide structure on the surface of γ-MnO2 structure. Around MnO1.9, a Tafel relation is observed for γ-MnO2 and i0 values are obtained. The polarization is always greater in 9M KOD than in 9M KOH under the same discharge conditions. © 1968, The Electrochemical Society, Inc. All rights reserved.
