THE THERMAL-DEGRADATION OF COPOLYMERS OF VINYLTOLUENE AND DIVINYLBENZENE

摘要
The thermal degradation beahviour of copolymers of vinyltoluene and divinylbenzene was studied by pyrolysis-gas chromatography and thermogravimetry techniques. The pyrolysis products evolved in the temperature range 200-600 degrees C consist of volatile aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, the composition of which varies with copolymer composition and temperature. The composition of copolymers of vinyltoluene and divinylbenzene can be determined by plotting the ratio of the chromatographic peak areas of (ethylvinylbenzene + m,p-divinylbenzene)/vinyltoluene against the initial content of divinylbenzene in the copolymers. The thermal stability of the copolymers increases with the divinylbenzene content.
