Some experiences with the ossicular chain have been recounted. The elimination of threatening disease is the prime goal, and reconstruction is not always feasible. Newer techniques, employing autogenous material whenever possible, appear to be superior to earlier attempts at reestablishing the sound conducting mechanism. A poorly functioning Eustachian tube does not contraindicate reconstruction of the ossicular chain. © 1969, SAGE Publications. All rights reserved.
