TOPOTACTIC PRECIPITATION OF A BETA-GA2O3 CRYSTALLINE SOLUTION FROM A MGAL2O4-GA2O3 CRYSTALLINE SOLUTION

Single crystals of a.35: 65 = MgAla04: Ga203 crystalline solution have been grown. The nature of the defects formed were predominantly of the cationdefect type as determined from lattice constant and density measurements. Precipitation of a β-Ga2O3 crystalline solution was accomplished by heat treatment at 1200°C. The topotactic relation between the exsolved phase and the spinel host was determined by x-ray and geometric methods. The close similarity of the oxygen arrangement in the spinel and gallia structures was demonstrated. The close-packed oxygen layers of the precipitate and matrix were shown to be parallel to each other. The topotaxy was found to be: (111)sp. || (013)gal., [110]sp. || [100]ga,. © 1969, Walter de Gruyter. All rights reserved.
