The appropriate procedure for estimating the ratio of remanent-to- saturation magnetization from x-ray pole figure data on uniaxial ferromagnets is described. An oversight existing in the literature regarding this problem is corrected, and it is demonstrated that x-ray crystallographic information can be quantitatively related to magnetic properties. A figure of merit for alignment is also proposed.
