DYNAMICS OF QUASIOPTICAL JOSEPHSON JUNCTION ARRAYS FOR SUBMILLIMETER COHERENT SOURCES

We investigate the dynamics of the quasioptical two-dimensional Josephson junction arrays for oscillators. We perform numerical time-domain simulations of small-scale parallel arrays. We find that the DC biasing circuit determines the states of these arrays. We also find "other" states exist in which parts of array operate in phase. We investigate the sensitivity of in-phase states on variations in junction critical currents and on non-vanishing fluctuations. We find that the DC self-field effects do not provide stable phase-locking mechanism and that RF interactions are necessary for locking the array in phase.
