STRONG ISOTOPE EFFECT ON THE INTER-MOLECULAR EXCHANGE INTEGRAL OF EXCITED TRIPLET-STATE DIMERS

High-resolution phosphorescence-microwave double resonance (PMDR) and optically detected magnetic resonance techniques have yielded two independent measurements of the nearest-neighbor excited-state exchange matrix element in dimers of 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene. Both experiments yield a value (0.07 cm-1) smaller than the value reported for exciton systems (0.34 cm-1), indicating a strong violation of the ideal mixed crystal concept. © 1979.
