Eutectic salt mixtures are attractive latent heat storage media. The corrosion behaviour of steel containers, may be affected by water and other impurities in the mixture, particularly if the containers are filled in air. This paper summarizes the results of corrosion studies, and concludes that there are a number of salt eutectics and construction materials available which can be used for latent storage in the temperature range 160-420°C. These are identified. © 1990.
