ESSENTIAL METAL-IONS IN THE CONTROL OF MICROBIAL-METABOLISM

摘要
This review examines data on the functions of essential metal ions and their role in metalloenzymes. The examples of ion-substitution in metalloenzymes are used. The ion-substitution method is suggested for use in physiological studies for controlling microbial metabolism. The effect of growth conditions on microbial requirements for chemical elements is considered. Special attention is paid to the role of essential metal ions in the control of cell growth and metabolism (synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, etc.). A calculation to determine the balanced growth media is discussed.
