摘要
The mechanistic understanding of hydrogen induced delayed cracking in hydride forming materials is reviewed. The main conclusion is that ccracking is due to the precipitation of brittle hydrides at crack tips. A simple quantitative model for the crack propagation process is presented and discussed. A comparison between the model and experimental data indicates reasonable agreement at high temperatures for the Zr-2. 5%Nb alloy. The least understood aspect of the mechanism is the details of the developing hydride morphology at the crack tip and the parameters governing unstable crack advance through these hydrides.
