BINDING OF SALICYLIC ACID AND SULPHANILAMIDE IN SERUM FROM PREGNANT PATIENTS CORD BLOOD AND SUBJECTS TAKING ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES

The binding of salicylic add and sulphanilamide (separately) by serum albumin from male and female controls, pregnant patients, cord blood, subjects on oral contraceptives, and pooled human serum, has been investigated. The results suggest that, with both drugs, the lower the concentration of albumin, the greater the number of molecules of drug bound per molecule of albumin. There is some indication that the groups of subjects under the influence of pregnancy hormones differ in degree and kind from the controls in respect to the binding of salicylic acid. Some of the implications of these conclusions are discussed. © 1968 John Sherratt and Son Ltd.
