The electric polarizabilities of 1/2+ baryons are calculated to leading order in O(1/N(c)) for SU (2) and SU (3) including non-minimal photon couplings from chiral perturbation theory. For SU (2) we show that this inclusion leads to the same electric properties for baryons as obtained from Skyrme models with explicit vector mesons. In SU (3) the electric polarizabilities are found to decrease with decreasing hypercharge.
