THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF LIQUID NA-GA ALLOYS

The thermodynamic quantities, free energy, enthalpy and entropy of mixing in liquid Na-Ga alloys have been obtained from electromotive force measurements near 600 degrees C. From these, the activities and the mean square concentration fluctuation are obtained. To a considerable extent these results are consistent with a pseudobinary alloy model based on a grouping Na5Ga 8 which forms the most stable compound in the solid state. This is not true for high sodium concentrations, however, where the tendency is for Na and Ga atoms to keep apart.
