GROWTH OF ANATASE (TIO2) CRYSTALS BY CHEMICAL-TRANSPORT REACTIONS WITH HBR AND HCL

摘要
The influence of Group IIIB metals on the polymorphic crystallization of TiO2 from vapor has been investigated. When highly pure rutile was used as a starting material, TiO2 was transported to colder zones of closed tubes by means of HBr and HCl to give only rutile. By contrast, the addition of a small amount of Al2O3, Ga2O3, or In2O3 to the starting material produced anatase crystals. Al3+ was incorporated into growing anatase crystals far more readily than Ga3+ and In3+. Two possible mechanisms have been proposed for the metastable formation of anatase in the presence of the foreign metals. © 1979.
