摘要
In 1991, crown rust of oat (Avena sativa), caused by Puccinia coronata, was first observed in trace amounts on susceptible oat in southern Manitoba on June 28. By mid August, crown rust severities of 10-40% were observed in commercial oat fields. Using 20 backcross lines, each with a single gene for resistance, as differentials, 112 virulence phenotypes were identified from 212 isolates from Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan; phenotypes virulent to both Pc38 and Pc39 accounted for 47.2% of the isolates. Virulence was not detected to resistance genes Pc45 and Pc48 in the prairie region in 1991, and virulence to Pc68 was detected for the first time since its isolation from an A. sterilis accession in 1982. In Ontario, 19 virulence phenotypes were identified from 31 isolates. Virulence to Pc39 remained high at 67.7%, and virulence to Pc38 increased from 7.2% in 1990 to 32.3% in 1991. No virulence was detected to Pc48, Pc50, Pc54, Pc58, Pc59, Pc60, Pc61, Pc67, and Pc68 in Ontario in 1991.
