FLUORESCEIN ANGIOGRAPHY OF MALIGNANT MELANOMA OF CHOROID

Selected fluorescein fundus photographs from 15 cases of malignant melanomas of the choroid are presented. Problems in differential diagnosis of choroidal melanomas are discussed. The angiographic features of the repective cases are described and the values of fluorescein angiography as an aid in intraocular tumor diagnosis are illustrated. Our experience indicates that certain fluorescent patterns, namely double circulation in elevated tumors and early mottling in flatter tumors, may support the diagnosis. Most cases exhibited late fluorescence which is a consistent finding but less helpful in differential diagnosis. No cell type was consistent with any one pattern of fluorescence. Fluorescein angiography, as an aid in diagnosis, may also be of benefit in certain cases of retinal detachment. © 1969.
