摘要
The immediate fluid environment of insect nerve cells has a stable ionic composition, often markedly different from that of the fluctuating levels in the blood plasma. John Treherne and Philip Schofield propose that the superficial glia and underlying glial cells are linked, to form a sodium reservoir which, together with membrane ion pumps, regulates the extra-cellular concentrations of sodium and potassium within the nervous system. © 1979.
