1. 1. Red piranhas (Rooseveltiella nattereri) were adapted to feeding under laboratory conditions. 2. 2. A feeding response was elicited throughout a 24-hr period when meat was dropped into the tank at hourly intervals. Each feeding lasted between 1 and 3 min. 3. 3. Blood glucose showed a daily rhythm with a minimum in the late morning just before the period of greatest food intake. 4. 4. Short-term starvation resulted in the utilization of liver glycogen and carcass lipid with little change in body weight. © 1968.
