UP-CONVERSION LUMINESCENCE OF GA2S3-BASED SULFIDE GLASSES CONTAINING ER3+ IONS

Glass formation in binary M(x)S(y)-La2S3 (M = Ga, Ge or As) systems was examined. Glasses were obtained for M = Ga whereas the M = Ge and As systems were not vitrifiable. In a ternary Ga2S3-GeS2-La2S3 system, glasses were obtained by a substitution of 35 mol% of GeS2 for GaS3/2. For the first time, upconversion luminescence of sulfide glass was measured for Er3+-doped Ga2S3-GeS2-La2S3 glasses. The intensity dependence of the luminescence on glass composition was consistent with Raman spectra of these glasses. Remarkable differences were found in the upconversion luminescence spectra in comparison with those of Er3+-doped halide glasses.
