摘要：

A new suction device for sampling the benthic fauna of soft bottoms is described and evaluated. A detailed study of its effectiveness is compared with that of two classic soft-bottom samplers, the Charcot dredge and a modified Orange-Peel grab. Its great superiority promises a considerable improvement over the results obtained through earlier sampling techniques. The Benthic Suction Sampler was installed and tested on the French bathyscaph, Archimède, and worked with complete satisfaction at a depth of 1800 m. © 1968.
