Data from a large number of observed meteorite falls have been investigated. Correlations have been sought between the ratio of multiple falls to total falls and (a) the mass of the meteorite, (b) the local time of fall and (c) the class of the meteorite. It was found that the probability of fragmentation is strongly dependent on the mass of the body. The ratio of multiple falls is relatively high for carbonaceous chondrites and low for irons but seems independent of all other factors considered. © 1969.
