Thermal defects in NiAl were investigated by measuring the dilatometric expansion coefficient over the composition range from 48. 5 to 60. 3 at% Ni. The apparent formation energy of the thermal vacancy decreased with an increase in Ni content and the decrease was much more pronounced at the Al-rich side of the stoichiometry than at the Ni-rich side.
