摘要
A procedure is proposed which allows the determination of the optimal treatment regimen for cancer chemotherapy given a certain patient and drug. The pi -criterion is applied to a mathematical model describing malignant and benign cell growth and destruction. As a result, the clinician can see whether the drug under consideration will have the desired effect as well as which form of treatment would be preferable: cyclic (on/off) or continuous. In the event cyclic treatment is superior, the optimal length of the treatment cycle as well as the on/off time for medication and the optimal dosage during this time are determined.
