LOW-TEMPERATURE (-80-DEGREES C) THERMIONIC ELECTRON-EMISSION FROM ALKALIDES AND ELECTRIDES

摘要
Electrons are emitted thermionically into vacuum at temperatures as low as -80°C from polycrystalline and thin film samples of alkalides and electrides. Saturation currents are reached at cathode-to-collector potentials of only 5-10 V. The emission current versus temperature follows the Richardson equation and yields apparent work functions between 0.2 and 0.5 eV. The emitted electrons apparently originate from trapped electrons in electrides or defect electrons in alkalides. © 1990.
