All (29,457) death certificates for children under 15 years of age who died of cancer in the United States, 1960-1966, were recoded as to cell type, and national mortality rates for each were determined. The most common neoplasms in order of frequency were leukemia, gliomas, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, Wilms' tumor, bone cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, and primary liver cancer. Comparison was made with 2,487 deaty certificates of persons who died of cancer from 15 to 19 years of age, 1965-1966. The marked differences in frequencies between the 2 age groups reflect dynamic changes in rates and in cell type with age during childhood. © 1969 The C. V. Mosby Company.
