COMPARISON OF EFFECTS OF X-RAYS AND ULTRAVIOLET-LIGHT IN CREATION OF EXCITONS IN AGCL

摘要
Optical detection of EPR using recombination luminescence shows that the self-trapped exciton in AgCl is a (100) oriented complexes of the type (Cl-Ag-Cl)-. In AgCl doped with AgBr, excitons are also trapped at bromine sites forming (100) oriented complexes of the type (Cl-Ag-Br) -. These centres are produced either by X-ray or UV excitation. In very lightly doped crystals UV excitation is much more effective than X-rays in producing the bromine complex and the reasons for this are discussed.
