o-Acetox:yphenyl radicals (4a) and 3-methyl-2-acetoxyphenyl radicals (4b) have been generated by decarboxylation of the corresponding benzoyloxy radicals. CIDNP studies and product analysis reveal no evidence for neighboring group participation by the acetoxy group or for acetoxy migration. The CIDNP investigations demonstrate that o-acetoxybenzoyloxy radicals decarboxylate slower than benzoyloxy radicals. © 1979, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
