An exact, nonperturbative calculation of the specular and diffracted intensities for He on LiF (001) accounts for all the features seen in the most recent experiments in the selective adsorption region for azimuthal and polar dependence. It is observed from the computed intensities that all of the family of beams having the same Gy lead to the same shape of the resonant structure. In particular, the (0,0), (1»,0), and (2»,0) beams present minima in the azimuthal dependence and maxima in the polar one, while the (1»,1) and (2»,1) present the opposite shape. This behavior seems to be general, and applicable to other systems. © 1979 The American Physical Society.
