The catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide to form CO//2 over polycrystalline Rh has been investigated experimentally and by numerical simulation. Transient CO//2 production rates have been measured under a variety of conditions. The results are analyzed in terms of the Langmuir-Hinshelwwod combination of coadsorbed oxygen and carbon monoxide. A complex reaction model is presented which successfully simulates the present results. The model requires a transition in the activation energy for the Langmuir-Hinshelwood process from 14. 3-25 kcalmol** minus **1 accompanied by the appearance of inhibition to CO adsorption by adsorbed oxygen above 529 K.
