As discussed in this paper, human reliability analysis (HRA) can be used to estimate the quantitative or qualitative contribution of human performance to system reliability and safety. This paper covers the following topics: what HRA is, why HRA is needed, a brief history of HRA, the present status of HRA (applications to various operations and production systems), current trends in HRA, and limitations of HRA. © 1990.
