MODULATION-INDUCED EFFECTS IN MAGNETIC MULTILAYERS - PERPENDICULAR ANISOTROPY, REVERSED HYSTERESIS AND MAGNETIZATION ENHANCEMENT

Multilayered magnetic thin films, grown on mica by vapour deposition, were studied by X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, vibrating sample and torque magnetometry techniques. The various structural characteristics were found to affect strongly the magnetic properties. Depending on the profile of the modulation period, for Pd(m)-Ni(n) or Cu(m)-Ni(n), perpendicular anisotropy and enhanced magnetisation were observed as well as a peculiar reversal of the hysteresis.
