FINITE INTERMEDIATE-FREQUENCY PENALTY IN OPTICAL PSK SYNCHRONOUS HETERODYNE RECEIVERS

摘要
System performance degradation due to the finite intermediate frequency (IF) is analyzed for an optical PSK synchronous heterodyne receiver. Analysis of the finite IF includes the effect of both the IF and the post-detection filtering. The theoretical study reveals that when the IF center frequency is set at f(IF) = 2/T (T = bit time) and the IF filter bandwidth is adjusted to be 2f(B) = 2/T, the finite IF introduces a 0.2 and 0 dB sensitivity penalty for single- and two-pole baseband filters, respectively.
