THERMODYNAMIC ACTIVITIES AT 1273K IN THE SYSTEM CUPRIC OXIDE MAGNESIUM-OXIDE USING A SOLID-STATE GALVANIC CELL

摘要
A solid-state galvanic cell with MgF//2 as the solid electrolyte was used to measure MgO activities at 1273 K in the equilibrium phases of the CuO-MgO system. The performance of the polycrystalline MgF//2 as the solid electrolyte was checked by operating the cell crystalline MgF//2 solid electrolyte used was sandwiched between the MgO reference electrode and the titanate working electrode. The object of these measurements was to check the suitability of MgF//2 as a solid electrolyte with t(F** minus ) close to unity for obtaining reliable thermodynamic results on metal-oxide solutions.
