A series of chlorinated phosphonitrilic ring compounds, ranging from (PNCl2) to (PNCI2)7, was examined by dynamic nuclear polarization with four different free radicals. A definite radical order was observed which suggests that enhancement details are related to the chemical properties of the ring compounds. The exocyclic chlorine atoms appear to be primarily responsible for the overall magnitude of the intermolecular hyperfine coupling, while the detailed order of polarization within the series may be interpreted in terms of differing amounts of electron derealization within the rings. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
