ON DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS BETWEEN CEREBRAL HAEMORRHAGE AND INFARCTION

In a series consisting of 51 cases of lethal cerebral haemorrhage and of 35 cases of lethal infarction, the feasibility of early clinical differentiation between these two conditions was studied retrospectively by comparing the salient data of the case histories and the medical records of the patients with haemorrhage with those of the patients suffering infarction. Diagnosis was proved at autopsy in all cases. The criteria that could have been used in early clinical differential diagnosis are tabulated. The validity of these criteria is restricted by the relatively small number of cases in this series. Until further experience has been gained, they may, however, be cautiously used as a preliminary guide to clinical differential diagnosis. © 1968.
