DISCRIMINATION ENHANCEMENT IN OPTICAL-PATTERN RECOGNITION BY USING A MODIFIED MATCHED-FILTER

Enhanced discrimination of an alphabet (g//1) from another alphabet (g//1 plus g//2) is achieved by using the holographic matched filter prepared from the pseudo-object (g//1 plus nu g//2), where nu is rho exp i phi and phi is pi . It is found that the filter thus prepared gives much reduced cross-correlation signal, whereas the pattern recognition signal, autocorrelation of g//1, is unchanged. The present method is tested out experimentally for the Korean alphabets in which one pattern of an alphabet is often contained in others.
