SYMMETRICAL CUEING EFFECTS FOR ITEM AND POSITION INFORMATION

摘要
In two experiments, we examined whether item and position information demonstrate cuing symmetry. Evidence for symmetry exists whenever the probability of recalling attribute a given attribute b as a cue roughly equals the probability of recalling attribute b given attribute a as a cue. Overall, the results of the present experiments suggest that item and position cues show cuing symmetry. Past experiments, however, have provided evidence contrary to this claim. Possible reasons for these discrepant results are discussed.
