摘要
1. 1. Rhythmic fluctuations in oxygen consumption and the effects of sex, body size, age and temperature on respiratory rates were investigated for the scorpion, Centruroides sculpturatus. 2. 2. A nocturnal rhythm in oxygen consumption was not observed except for an initial increase in response to the change from light to dark. 3. 3. Higher oxygen consumption rates were found for males. This probably reflects a size difference between the sexes. 4. 4. Oxygen consumption showed an essentially linear increase between 10 and 42°C. At higher temperatures approaching lethal limits, a sharp rate increase was followed by a decrease in oxygen consumption. 5. 5. Observed rhythmic fluctuations and respiration-temperature curves are discussed in relation to scorpion activity. © 1969.
