METAL-ION QUENCHING OF PERYLENE FLUORESCENCE IN LIPID BILAYERS

摘要
Perylene fluorescence was found to be quenched by CO2+ and Ni2+ ions below the phase transition in small unilamellar vesicles. Long-range Forster dipole-dipole energy transfer was found to describe the quenching of the perylene fluorescence in the case of Co2+ whereas for Ni2+ the quenching mechanism was found to be more akin to the shorter range Dexter exchange interaction. A Co2+ sensor in solution based on Forster energy transfer from Perylene is proposed.
