A high precision current monitoring system is installed for use with the electron scattering facility of the 85 MeV electron linac at Amsterdam. It consists of a toroid current monitor upstream of the target in conjunction with a Faraday cup far beyond the target. Quadrupole magnets between the target and the cup limit the current loss due to the divergence of the beam emerging from the target. The losses are measured to high precision by feedback techniques. The overall accuracy in the determination of the primary beam current is in the order of a few tenths of a percent. © 1969.
