ANOREXIA-NERVOSA - COMPLICATIONS OF SOMATIC THERAPY

Two cases involving mortality and morbidity during the treatment of anorexia nervosa were reported. By way of contrast, a 3rd and 4th case were described as approaches to avoid the risks of rapid refeeding, whether encouraged or enforced, of anorexia nervosa patients. The criteria for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa in these 4 patients were: a significant weight loss, the presence of abnormal food preferences and eating patterns, the absence of medical illness which could explain the symptoms and the absence of psychosis.
