To explore hypotheses concerned with aptitude treatment interactions (ATI), 4 sets of instructional material on elementary set concepts were developed and administered to 426 5th and 6th grade Ss. Each kind of material emphasized either verbal-deductive, verbal-inductive, figural-deductive, or figural-inductive abilities. A battery of aptitude tests designed to measure the 4 abilities was given before Ss worked on the materials. Following the instructional materials, a criterion achievement test containing both verbal and figural items was administered. The Ss were combined into verbal and figural, and then into deductive and inductive groups. Multiple-regression equations gave no indication of ATI in the verbal-figural comparisons but support was found in the deductive-inductive comparisons.
