摘要
The new compounds Gd2XC (X Cl, Br, I) were prepared from GdX3, Gd, graphite by heating in sealed tantalum capsules at 1250 to 1500 K. X-ray investigations (Gd2IC, single crystal, P63/mmc, a = 380.10(3) pm, c = 1479.2(2) pm, 135 symmetry-independent reflections, R = 0.048; Gd2BrC, powder, isotypic with Gd2IC, a = 378.58(5) pm, c = 1420.9(2) pm; Gd2ClC, powder, R3̄m, a = 369.02(2) pm, c = 2030.8(1) pm) show Gd-C-Gd layers to be connected via layers of X atoms. The chlorine atoms are coordinated trigonal antiprismatically and bromine and iodine atoms prismatically. The different environments are discussed in terms of the larger polarizabilities of Br- and I- ions (larger extent of X p-d-mixing). Bonding is analysed via extended-Hückel band structure calculations. All compounds are metallic. Gd2ClC orders antiferromagnetically at 32 K, Gd2BrC and Gd2IC ferromagnetically at 110 K and 182 K respectively. © 1990.
