REACTIONS OF SUBSTITUTED PHENOLATE IONS WITH 4-NITROPHENYL LAURATE CATALYZED BY CATIONIC MICELLES

摘要
The bimolecular reaction of substituted phenolate ions with 4-nitrophenyl laurate is catalyzed by CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide). Two types of micellar catalysts are observed: one with ester and phenolate ion in “dilute solution” in the micelle (eq i) and the other when the micelle is “saturated” with phenolate ion (eq ii). The partition coefficients Keq and K'eq refer to equations for increasing CTAB and increasing phenolate ion concentrations and the rate constants obey the saturation rate laws (eqs i and ii, respectively). © 1990, American Chemical Society.
