NONLINEAR SIMULATIONS OF A FEL AMPLIFIER WITH AN AXISYMMETRICAL ELECTRON-BEAM

摘要
The paper presents a nonlinear simulation algorithm of a FEL amplifier with an axisymmetric electron beam. The model under consideration is based on the description of electron motion with canonical equations using ''energy-phase'' variables and on electromagnetic field representation with the retarded potentials. The analysis of the FEL amplifier is performed taking into account diffraction of radiation, space charge fields and energy spread of electrons in the beam. All final equations and results are presented in a reduced form with the help of similarity techniques. The presented axisymmetric numerical simulation code FS2RN allows one to calculate various output FEL amplifier characteristics at the saturation and tapering undulator regimes.
