VARIATION OF DIRECT CURRENT RESISTANCE OF LIPID BILAYERS

摘要
The specific dc resistance of phosphatidyl choline (lecithin) and phosphatidyl serine bilayers in aqueous solutions of various pH values, salt compositions, and salt concentrations was measured. It was found that the resistance of the phospholipid bilayer membrane greatly depends upon the environmental solution. In the solution of 0.1 N sodium chloride, the membrane resistance had a maximum value of about pH 4 for the phosphatidyl choline bilayer and about 3 ∼ 4 for the phosphatidyl serine bilayer. The value of the resistance decreased as the pH of the solution became lower or higher. Adding divalent ions (Ca++ or Mg++) to the solution changed greatly the behavior of the membrane resistance with respect to pH. © 1969.
