INTRA-MOLECULAR MOTION OF POLYSTYRENE IN A THETA MIXED-SOLVENT BY PHOTON-CORRELATION SPECTROSCOPY

摘要
The dynamics of polystyrene in a theta mixed solvent (80.25 vol % carbon tetrachloride/methanol at 25°C) have been investigated using photon-correlation spectroscopy. Measurements of the diffusion coefficient D and first-mode intramolecular relaxation time τ, have been made in dilute solutions for four narrow functions with M̄w between 2.38 × 106 and 6.77 × 106. The hydrodynamic radii Rh were found to be identical with those measured in a previous study of a theta single solvent (cyclohexane at 34.5°C) with Rh = 0.288M0.5 Å, and the values of τi again support Zimm's non-draining bead-and-spring model. © 1979.
